Artistic Eyes on Rural France: An Open Studio Experience

July 19 to July 26, 2011

THE EXPERIENCE

Bring your spirit of adventure and artistic eye to our small group exploration of everyday life in the French countryside. Whatever your level of involvement in artistic endeavors, after our day trips you will enjoy retreating to our spacious studio with experienced mentors to explore your impressions through journals, poetry, sketching, photo collage, bookmaking, and/or monoprints. Opportunities for participating in plein air painting and travel sketching will be offered. A suggested materials lists will be provided.

THE AREA

An hour and half from the Mediterranean our retreat home, La Cascade is located in the tiny village of Dufort, which has produced copperware since the Middle Ages. In the surrounding area are opportunities to attend musical concerts and visit farmers markets, flea markets, antique shops, local artisan’s studios, museums, Cathar castles, medieval villages, and galleries. All of this offered in the height of sunflower season. Dufort is an hour and a half south east of the Toulouse airport. Participants will rent cars to share for the week.

THE ACCOMMODATIONS

Your home will be in the beautifully restored La Cascade, built in the 1750’s. The fully equipped French country kitchen will be stocked with breakfast ingredients. We will prepare lunchs and dinners from local ingredients or enjoy meals in village restaurants. The three bedrooms are double occupancy (two twin beds) with three shared bathrooms. The third floor studio is available anytime. Our home includes a lovely living room, dinning room and a large outside terrace overlooking the river below.
